Gather round now, and listen to my tale- the tale of a mighty stallion, coal black, who roamed for miles and miles, searching for that which was to unlock his heart. He discovered a river gushing down the small valley, the wild sun burning in the sky, reflecting in the spring waters that had traveled as far as he himself.
He spent the night beside the river, grazing the rich grasses and drinking from the river, sleeping only when he could be sure no menacing predators were about. When the light of day reached its height in the sky, it cast no shadows in the small valleys. The stallion decided that if he were to stay here, or even leave by the next sunlight, that it should be named Sunshine River. He explored the surrounding area, finding enough land that was unoccupied to hold many large herds and some communal areas, where there may be the chance for young colts to group after leaving the herd.
Something in his mind made him stay just for that extra night, and that was the night it happened, as he slept in a secret glade beneath the bright full moon. A large twig snapped under foot, and the stallion awoke suddenly, but soundlessly. He cast his eyes over the grounds to where the noise had arisen from, there he saw the key he had been searching for, the key to his heart. A tall, elegant chestnut mare stood there, basking in moonlit beauty.
The ebonite stallion greeted the mare, and they spoke long into the night. She told him of her life there, in the land of the river, summers and winters spent alone. Love blossomed between them, and they chose to spend the rest of their days together; they produced only one foal, a colt. But the year after he was born, the same year that the mystery mare and stallion died, he was captured. The river valleys were silent once more.
Now as rumor has it, he escaped capture and returned to his homeland – to find the bones and memories of his dam and sire. But the glory of the land was not destined to be his alone.
Many new horses have followed in his path, leaving their herds to find this place of renown- Sunshine River. They too want to leave their hoofprints in the sand...
